Weaning

We now have Internet in our new house so I thought I'd do a quick post. I still need to do Sophia's 5 month update and a few other things.

James and I knew that we would be doing Baby Led Weaning very early on in my pregnancy. I read a book about it and it seemed very natural and a healthier approach towards food.

With baby led weaning there are no purées and no spoon feeding. It encourages babies to explore food and have fun with it. Studies have shown that children who are weaned in this way are less likely to be overweight in later life and less likely to be fussy eaters compared to traditionally weaned babies.  Both good things in our eyes!

Sophia has been sitting up to the table in her highchair during our meal times. She has the same food as we have been eating, she usually shares my meal.

She is loving the food we offer to her so far and is learning how to pick up the food/her spoon and guide it to her mouth - great for her hand-eye coordination!

As a result of weaning Sophia our diets seem to have become healthier so that is a bonus too.

So far Sophia has tried and liked...
- avocado
- cucumber
- wholemeal pitta bread
- ready brek
- cheddar
- mackerel
- chicken
- green beans
- courgette
- apple
- pear
- nectarine
- hummus
- and her very favourite, strawberries!!
